Dentistry beyond the clinics
In December 2023, Dr Koh joined an overseas dental mission trip to Phnom Penh with ACTS, where she worked alongside a team of volunteers to provide dental care to underserved communities. Temporary clinics were set up in a village community centre and a local school, serving villagers and children who had been eagerly anticipating the team’s annual visit.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the trip was the opportunity to build meaningful connections with the local community. In addition to providing dental treatment, she spent time engaging with the children, sharing moments of joy, and teaching them the fundamentals of good oral hygiene. She also met with students and faculty members at a local university to exchange ideas on improving access to dental care and supporting sustainable oral health initiatives within their communities.
The trip held special significance for Dr Koh as she was able to share the experience with her sister and close friends. It reflected her belief that dentistry extends beyond the walls of a clinic and can be a powerful way to serve communities, foster meaningful connections, and create a lasting positive impact.

Getting to know our Dentist
How do you help patients who feel anxious or fearful about dental visits?
One of the best ways to avoid dental anxiety is not to wait until you’re in pain before coming in, as emergency visits can sometimes reinforce negative experiences. Once you’ve made the decision to visit, there’s no need to worry about the first appointment. We can start with a conversation, discuss any concerns you may have, and take things slowly and gently from there – one step at a time. My goal is to help patients feel comfortable, informed, and in control throughout their dental journey.

If you weren’t a dentist, what other career path you might have chosen?
I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands, so i think i would have found myself in another hands-on profession. Nature conservation work would be particularly meaningful to me, or perhaps working with clay and pottery, which i find both creative and rewarding.

What’s your go-tp-way yo unwind after a long day at the clinic?
I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors, so a relaxing swim or a run through one of Singapore’s nature reserves is often how I recharge. On quieter evenings, I also love playing the guitar and unwinding with music.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I love trying new things. Whether it’s discovering a new cuisine, picking up a different sport, or learning a new skill, i’m always excited to step outside my comfort zone. The best part is when something I try on a whim ends becoming a long-term hobby!
