Wisdom teeth can bring about complications like damage to your other teeth, jaw damage, sinus issues, inflamed gums, cavities, and can affect the alignment of your other teeth.
However, not all wisdom teeth will cause you such problems. So, when is it really necessary to remove your wisdom tooth?
4 occurrences when you should remove it:
Wisdom teeth removal may be necessary if you experience these changes in the area: pain, repeated infection of soft tissue behind the lower last tooth, cysts (fluid-filled sacs), tumors, damage to nearby teeth, gum disease or extensive tooth decay.
Conversely, it will not be necessary if your wisdom tooth has grown in fully and properly, and does not cause you any pain.
Nevertheless, wisdom teeth are susceptible to cavities and are not easy to clean, so some dentists may still recommend that you remove them.
The best bet would be for you to go for regular checkups every 6 months. Our dentists at Greenlife will be able to determine if your wisdom tooth requires extraction by means of observation and or x-ray. You should note though, that the older you are, the tougher it gets to remove your wisdom tooth, and the recovery time will be longer, but a good dentist should be able to minimize the pain felt.
Last but not least, not everyone has wisdom teeth, so don’t worry if you don’t have any!
