Who Is More Attractive?
In 2011, a study was conducted by researchers at the Face Research Laboratory at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, during which subjects were asked to rate smiling and attractiveness. As it turns out, both men and women were more attracted to images of people who made eye contact and smiled than those who did not.
Back To School
But I bet you already know that, don’t you? Let me paint you a picture. It’s the first day of school. You step into a class full of foreign faces and you’re feeling the jitters. There are two empty seats left. One next to a girl whose mouth is stretched into a broad smile and whose eyes are shining brightly, and the other next to a girl who is just staring straight ahead into nothingness. Who would you choose to sit next to? Naturally, you would pick the seat beside the smiling girl because she looks more inviting.
What Can A Smile Do For You?
Smiles are powerful things, they are. They help you build better, faster relationships and it also affects your job and career. Your smiles help you make the very first impressions with people, including your future employees and business partners.
Job Interviews?
A recent study by Dr. Mikki Hebl and Dr. Juan Madera discovered that during a job interview, the interviewer was often distracted by disfigurements or qualities of the face. Unaware, they rated those candidates as less qualified because they remembered less of what the interviewee had said and more of what they looked like.
Although not every interviewer may show the same results, your smile actually affects your self-esteem. If you have crooked teeth, you would tend to be more self-conscious, hence less confident. And this would greatly impact the interviewer’s impression of you.
