On average, a person spends about 852 hours, or 35.5 days, brushing his or her teeth. Since you’re spending so much time on it, you should at least make sure you’re using the right toothbrush for you to reap maximum benefits and make the time spent worthwhile.
There are a few factors to take in consideration when toothbrush shopping.
Brush head
The size of the toothbrush head should be an important factor as we all have varying mouth sizes, and hence different sizes suit different individuals. You should make sure that the brush head is just the right size and able to reach all the way to your last tooth at the back of your mouth.
Bristles
You should choose bristles that are soft and preferably with rounded tips to prevent any damage to your gums, root surface and protective enamel. It would also be good if the bristles are of different lengths to facilitate proper cleansing. That being said, do go easy on your teeth – you don’t need to scrub them with all your might.
Brand
It is recommended that you choose to use a toothbrush of a reputable brand as some toothbrushes may not do the job well or may even be made of unsafe materials.Last but not least, remember to change your toothbrush once every three months, and take note of the state of your teeth when you brush them!
